Opinion
I have been amassing of late, subjects just too awful to talk about:
those beheadings, the nude photo scandal, the gamers debate, and now
Where The Bears Are (gay web tv). All this polite silence is making me gain weight.
And, après tout, this is a blog with consenting readers, and not a public news organization.
So wada I have to say about it all?
On the beheadings: I think the Islamic Caliphate people fail to understand what
a free world journalist is. They are not the forefront of propaganda for the West,
they are secondary players, low on the totem pole. Not necessarily to be despised as
individuals, but we all know what they are up to. Language speaks them, to use a Sartrian concept.
(Which is, incidentally, why both men rendered a perfect script of the Islamic position,
even moments before their own deaths). They honored their profession.
On the photo scandal: clearly is was naive of those ladies to upload nudies, put politely,
overly-trustful. Safety on the internet is well-nigh impossible, given the very nature of the
technology. There are always instructions, somewhere, telling the computer what to do.
As for the vendors, these guys are pretty cutesie. This is how the web developed, with
little icons mimicking real things and processes like 'file folders' on a 'desktop'. So make up
a 'password' to make your pictures 'safe'. Well, duh!!
Gaming enthusiasts - aka gamers - are currently embroiled in a spirited defence of
gaming space form the onslaughts of political correctness. They have my support.
If Jennifer Lawrence is safe from my prying eyes - I won't be googling her pictures - the
lot at Bears You Tube are not. Those little snippets of male eroticism on the Web are like
chocolate covered almonds in the cupboard; it's just a question of time. We'll see how long
I manage to hold the line (all it takes is one long rainy afternoon...).
