Watched another Disney+ movie: Mike,Nick, Nick and Alice. It was recently
made - released in March 2026 - and snapped up by Disney. And it got a 76%
rating from the critics. Thus, a solid B.
It is not a Science Fiction Movie but it does have a science fiction element, as part of the
plot: there are two Nicks, one being from the Future. or is it the other one, also part of
the action, who is from the Past. This is how Science Fiction elements are now part of Cinema's
vocabulary. The real issue is aging, and how Nick has a better grasp on how emotions
resolve than the younger characters.
In effect, it brought to mind an earlier movie with a time travel element I remember
watching: Hot Tub Time Machine. Now that was one bad movie, aesthetically repulsive,
et j'en passe. I remember thinking at the time this plot machination was ridiculous. Now it
is something commonplace.
I actually gave up on the movie half way through: there was no one to root for. All the characters
were baddies. The young Mike was starting to wonder whether a life of crime and murderous
violence was the right career choice for him. ...🙄
Went back to finish it two days later. It was the most current offering on Disney. And then
the violence started, the true filler for contemporary movies. All those henchmen marching
on fearlessly, only to be obliterated in grandiose fashion by the hero(es).
And at the very end, I realized I was hooked. I actually hated for this movie to end. I wanted
more. A solid B, then...
