Catchy!

Below, the basic granola recipe: nuts, oats, coconut;
                                                     oil, honey, vanilla;
In the oven at 300F.
Cool and add fixings of choice.

Looks a bit over the top with the three chocolate bars.

Catchy little tune...

Rocking It

I've lost weight this summer, in large part to make life easier
on myself. Excessive heat is easier top bear with age if one is of
lighter weight.

One unexpected consequence has been on my posture.
At one point, my hunched shoulders started to feel wrong. I constantly
had the urge to straighten myself out. That worked through all well and good.

These days the position of my head feels off. I should be holding my head
further back for balance. This even makes me taller, by close to 1/2 inch!!
I'm currently rocking a height and weight combination I have never had in
my entire life.

Would be nice to stay lean through the winter!?

Aspirational

The Royal children are in Canada for their first royal visit; all my best to them.

This Sunday, as well, Paris is enjoying a carless day!!

I, for one, can go to Montreal for free, while St-Jean promotes public transport. Hoorah!
I plan to use this wisely, to finally make sense of the underground city. Which from the
below map, seems simple enough.

It is, in fact, devilishly difficult to navigate, especially during the week with waves of
office workers present.

But with a good map, I expect to see results.

And I have done some research...

Next Day (Monday):

Reflecting on yesterday's outing, yes that Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte was delicious.
This drink is also offered by van Houtte and Dunkin Donut, both of whom have stands in
Place Ville-Marie. I could make a thing of it, taste test my way through for my blog.

On a more serious note, I am struck by how this proliferation of coffee, tea and pastries in the business district may be the result of a feminized work place. These are women's treats and go-tos, although they are now taken by men as well.

Bottom line, we are tempted by the not always healthy treats of both sexes.
Or rather, foods of the other sex are freely available, and one might be eating
them wrongly. Something to think about...

Candidate Health

source: Le Figaro
author: Pauline Fréour

The health status of candiates to the French presidency is a divise question in France

An exclusive survey for client Odoxa-Le Figaro-France Inter shows very contrasted opinions about the expected transparency from Presidential candidates with respect to their health.

French electors are divided about the necessity for a presidential candidate to be transparent on health, yet also admit that knowing about a serious illness would limit the attractivenness of a candidate, according to an Odoxa survey done in partnership with le Figaro and France Inter and published this Thursday.

For 50 % of those surveyed, ‘It is normal to expect total transparency from candidates about their health’ because the choice of a President ‘is too serious a matter to risk electing someone who is sick’. Men are more represented in this group (59%).

The respondents are almost as many (49%) to think the contrary as ‘ the health of each individual is a private matter’, according to this Odoxa survey. Noteworthy, the more a person progresses in age, the more he/she will believe that health is a private matter: while 66% of those 18-24 are for transaprency, this is down to 30% for those older than 65.

The French are also of differing opinion in their judgements of behavior from past Presidents. With respect to Georges Pompidou and François Mitterrand, both of whom had kept hidden a serious illness from their fellow citizens (blood cancer for the one, prostrate cancer for the other), 52% think these were wrong, and 47% would defend their right to silence.

Nonetheless, two out of three French voters admit they would think twice about voting for someone if they knew that person was gravely ill.

(Survey of 999 French adults representative of the population).

Magnetism

A moving charged particle will create a filed of attraction around itself. This is the basis for magnetism.

An object will become  magnetized if it possesses more than one shell orbits with  a
single electron (hence of one particular spin direction).

In Defense of Sugar

Yes, sugar added to foods is currently getting very bad press. But sugar - as well as salt -
can be used to cure foods and stop spoilage. Read the explanation of how this works below:

Diabetes 1 (Khan Academy)

Kahn Academy offers a very clear statement of what Type1 diabetes is.

I wasn't aware of how the body moves between an absorptive and
post-absorptive state; this was helpful to me. It also taught me that
there is always a basal amount of insulin in the blood, and that is what
taking long-acting insulin replicates.

Sweet!

When calories don't matter, there is...sweetened condensed milk.
It is the secret ingredient to many confectioneries, and awesome
desserts.

I was happy to find today - the French MSN- a recipe for a traditional
Portuguese Pudim, which highlights this ingredient.

With the oven preset T 350°, one puts the powdered sugar to
heat in a pan with a bit of water till it forms a caramel. pour this
in a spring form pan.

Whip together the rest of the ingredients:5 eggs, 2 cans
of sweetened condensed milk, an equivalent volume of
partially-skimmed milk.

Pour over the caramel; cover with aluminium foil, bake for
1 1/2 hours.

Cool in the refrigerator for 3 hours; unmold with a quick dip
in warm water.

Shown above with oranges.

Dessert-loving cooks also know that condensed milk is the
quick way to wonderful ice cream. Yes, a whipped up cream
container to which one adds the milk product will form the basis
for any ice cream variant one might desire, no churning involved.
Like I said, when calories are not an issue...

Kanye W.

So I'm finally going to say it. Body diversity is all very nice, but it s built on a
wrong foundation.

Models are not size zero petite wonders, they are 5'10'' big girls, forced to parade
in size 4 clothes. Because that is the standard in merchandizing: the model is always
wearing size small (4). And those models are tall, to ensure that they are visible on
the catwalk. Tall, tall-er than average. The poor model spends a good deal of her
time modelling clothes she would not own, because they are size-inappropriate for her
as a private person. There is no real reason to own a dress with sleeves that barely
covers one's thighs.

I am not illustrating this fact to not embarras any working models. Voilà.

So that all this whining about too thin role-models is just silliness. As for the need
to keep in stock too short dresses for normal-height overweight women. And have
them parade on the catwalk. Que dire!? Maybe a Kanye West long coat??
