 Back on it, with Django # 9. Will be adding user authentication, for which

Got through Django # 8. Our blogs are currently liable to ordering by negative ID.

Django assigns an ID to each post automatically. For cultural reasons, we need to switch

to ordering by date, like Google Blogger. The last blog appears first.

We do face a bit of an issue; this should have been done from day 1. Here, our previous

blogs will now default to today's date, so Blog the Fourth stays at the bottom of

the page. But going forward, all should be good.

 I was going to keep silent about this opinion piece, although I

found it quite interesting. But now, I feel the need to reference it.

It's all about yesterday's announcement of Nordstrom closing all Canadian

stores. Another department store goes down. And I am still upset

about the earlier demise of Sears.

So what is the connection between the two. I remember being bemused

at the Sears closure on the grounds of insufficient profits, when they were

actually doing very well. They just weren't delivering ever-increasing profits

to demanding investors.

I can see Norstrom being victim to a variant of this: lots of pseudo-luxury

goods when the client is simply looking for reliable quality.

We boomers may well be the culprits; demanding unrealistic returns

and loosing the stores that serve us as a result...

Django 7 deals with adding a delete function. We are also shown how to

reverse order with hegative id, but advised not to use it. Date is safer!

Edit_functions

The usual elements enable new functionality: views, templates and urls. And here,

additionally, django forms.

                                                     

There is a new url, for update_post. Views contains an UpdatePostView.

                                                                             

There is an Edit Form class in forms.

Talking

 So it's a 'good news/bad news' day on the Ukraine situation.

Finding that the famous Little Mermaid port rock in Denmark had its

base painted to the colors of the Russian flag was bad news. And,

hopefully, not a portend of things to come. Equally disturbing to one who 

fears escalation in this conflict, the news that there had been ground 

fighting on Russian territories.

Je pourrais  m'étendre sur le sujet but, by now, everyone knows the drill.

Which brings me to the bit of good news: Representative Blinken and Ambassador

Lavrov actually spoke to each other - if only for ten minutes - at a UN disarmement

meeting. For the first time since the beginning of this conflict. This is very good

news, to my mind.

Nobody budged an inch, many would reply, but it makes me hopefull anyway. 

Philosophy has taught us, since Antiquity, that human truth does not emerge full

blown or quantifiable; it is the result of dialogue, a dialectic, which looks at pieces

of evidence in ever shifting context. Things get resolved through a process: 'I

hadn't seen it like that!' It is social; this is how humans think.

Modern philosophy did try to pin the dialectic in a model of thesis, antithesis, synthesis

ie a form of Rationalism. But these is too much going on; not the least of which is that this

ignores emotion, which layers and colours meaning. And ultimately, one wants to take action!

This is no time to feel hopeless. And a side nod to the teenage gangs in both Russia and 

Ukraine that have staged Anime fights from Web groups. The young are bored with it all; they 

want to live as peers.

So let's keep talking...

 Django # 5; not giving up. It is not straightforward to style a django

blog. We need to wrap what is given in django.forms and style that.
