Spent a good part of the Saturday synching my two Surface tablets. I will be working
from the newer one from now on, but the older contains a lot of files: both in the
computer's memory and in the memory card I added to it. To be frank, it is a huge
archival problem, and I don't know I am up to the task.
For the moment, though, Copilot and YouTube videos helped me understand how
computers on the same Wi-Fi network ( my home network) can exchange files without
physical contact, or the internet. The secret is to put both computers on a 'private' rather
than public mode. Windows will then allow, with permissions, one computer to access a
designated Shared file on the other. The set-up was designed for a work context, where
people working on a same project could share and advance the project file. Clever.
On the Windows interface, the beige cardboard folder icon in the taskbar opens the file
navigator. The very last entry on the left column calls up the Network, and shows what computors
are available for a visit. I have renamed my Surface 2 Pro and Surface 8 Pro Laptop1 and Laptop2
respectively.
