No_Worries

Nothing to worry about; they're 126 light-years away which would

give us plenty of time to see them coming. Although I'm not so sure

securing Greenland is that much of a priority anymore.

What am I talking about? Life from another planet. Because there is

increasing evidence that a world with life-sustaining conditions does show,

in its atmosphere, a chemical signature for molecules only producable by

living organisms here on Earth.

NASA is pretty chill about it. We may never know...

I'm not! But then we might!

HAPPY SATURDAY!

COPILOT:

Help me find an article about a planet 126 light-years away believed to possibly harbor life...

Louise, it sounds like you might be referring to the recent buzz around exoplanet K2-18b. Although some sources mention a distance around 124 light-years, a slight variation in the reported distance (like 126 light-years) isn’t unusual in astronomy. The article that most closely fits your description is the one titled "Strongest Evidence of Alien Life Yet Found 124 Light-Years Away", published on ScienceAlert. This article explains how astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope detected intriguing chemical signatures in K2-18b’s atmosphere—specifically, compounds such as dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), which on Earth are produced predominantly by marine microorganisms. These findings suggest that the planet, which orbits within its star’s habitable (or “Goldilocks”) zone, could potentially harbor life, though the scientists stress that further observations are needed to confirm a biological origin.

If you’d like to explore more details, you might also check out similar coverage from CBS News, which discusses the discovery and its implications for our search for extraterrestrial life. These articles dive into how the measurements were made, the challenges in interpreting these biosignatures, and the ongoing debate within the scientific community regarding the nature of these signals.
