Those Numbers

My travails with Python continue. Found this clever code which creates

an onhover function, and added a bind to track the mouse location.

The button gives different numbers that the true root ones can be

imaged to be. The button widget, label, everything with text takes width

commands to be in terms of number of characters, or number of lines for

height. And bind on root always reports the numbers from the uppermost -

visible - widget. So it is...

                                                           *     *     *
I can run smoothly over three adjacent buttons, and each will change

as expected; but this requires three separate instances of the code!

                                                                           *     *     *
So here I am adding an additional button, only it will show a tool tip

with new information:

Finally, this new button will only trigger a tool tip if there is a message to show.

but the message variable has to be set to 'none' or else it shows with no text!!

Wednesday

Checked in on Parliament, this morning, to see how those Bills

we were following are faring. Yesterday, was happy to see that C-22, the

Canada Disability Act has passed Second Reading in the House.

Bill C-30 - the GST Bill - has now received Royal assent and will be turned over to the

bureaucray to implement:

Bill C-31 - Dental Care and Housing - is still at Second Reading in the House.

An amendment was proposed by the Conservatives, and will be examined today.

(I believe they have asked for an amendment on division: because there are two

separate measures in the Bill, they wantt a separate vote on each.)

From Hansard, Government Order2 (end):

I had noted, in my Calendar, a release of Cost Of Living stats for September.

This should be around 10am.

My Wedenesdays are often marked up, now that I follow the Bank of Canada

and the US Fed, as well.

Moment

Had a moment with Revenue Canada, this morning, re-instating my

electronic access. Long story short: there are now stringent security

requirements, and I suspect, Windows11 is necessary. Thank you

to the patient agent who guided me through this (my phone finally

died after 20 minutes). I am back on! 👩‍🦳

YouTuber Amberlynn Reid seems to be having serious health concerns, yet

again. She fell and hurt her ankle, then in convalescence has a partially

collapsed lung. Sounds serious, and there are fears of cancer...

So here's the thing about cancer, as I understand it: cancer isn't something

that one catches, it is something that one doesn't. Let me explain.

Cancer is cellular deregulation, caused by free radiation we are all exposed

to. Indeed, I have read we all start a new cancer aprrpoximately once a day.

Thing is, we have evolved to have a powerful immune and regulatory system

that stops and cleans up any untoward growth.

From this perspective, it is understandable that cancer lurks for the elderly,

because all systems end up performing less well over time.

But this also means that we keep cancer at bay by staying healthy, and moving

around normally. Hey, we are machines: a lot of movements of liquids in our bodies

are dependent on our using our muscles. Toxins in our body are carried out in

this manner. So exercise isn't a luxury, or an adjuct to weight control. It is an intrinsic

part of the process of staying alive.

Amberlynn became bedbound: not good. She was also taking Ozempic, for weight loss,

which stimulates insulin production in an abnormal fashion for her internal

ecosystem. She needs a reset.

The situation need not be seen as dire, but it does require a wholistic approach.

All my best wishes to you, Amberlynn.

Butties

source: La Presse

A bit of positive news, this morning, for the inflation-weary. Loblaws is

freezing prices on its store-brand products to the end of January 2023. That

is good news, not just for the money saved but also for  peace of mind. Who

remembers exactly wha this or that used to cost, or knows what it should: it's

mental gymnastics on the shop floor, and we all need a rest from it.

I did visit a Maxi last week: they are a half-hour walk away for me, a nice

riverside walk. I had gone for frozen veg, 2$ for 750 grams, and I get one of

each peas and corn when I go. I had mis-timed my visit because Thursday

is when the weekly specials change, and the store was packed with people

filling up on paper products and the like. And the shelves were empty of both

small packs of veggies. I ended up buying one two kilo bag of peas at the

expected price, some cashew nuts at 4.50$, a treat and very expensive elsewhere,

and a can of tomato sauce beans (around 1.25$ ?).

I never 'stock-up'. I remember reading in a women's magazine that all that does

is tie up one's spendable money in inventory, and who wants to do that. So I

buy in a normal way at all times, and use specials to indulge in things that

have become out-of-reach, every so often.

Am I a down-and-out bean eater. I actually started eating tomato sauce beans

a few years back, wanted to try beans on toast which I had read was a British

thing to do; like chip butties (French Fry sandwiches). No that bad! I finally

got the inside story on that, from someone explaining the whole thing on Quora.

After world Wat II, with a good part of London bombed out, canned foods were

the only thing available. That and bread. So beans on toast were filling and okay,

and butties culture was born.

Happy Purchase

Got a new Surface Pro 8 yesterday. Why not go for the 9: I live with

older adults, and I really need reliable headphones. The 8 has plug-in

headphones and the 9 doesn't. Bluetooth, in my experience, is skittish!

The big problem I had with the Surface 2 was constant scrambling for storage.

Have plenty of sorage now. Wondering what to download first...

And I have windows 11.

It's shiny, new, and the colors are fantastic. 😀

Ask!

Sometimes, you just have to ask 😃
