Here is my own contribution to this discussion. The planet is currently

at its farthest from the Sun but the Northern Hemisphere is in Summer

because the Earth is tilted toward the Sun. Lets ponder that: the equator is

where it always is- in the shortest path to sunlight - but Earth's tilt is like

a beer belly, closer to the Sun. Because we currently have more heat trapping molecules

in the atmosphere ie Climate Change - we may be trapping more heat over - say,

Texas. Would need to do the math on that...
