Got inspired while reading La Presse this morning:

Don't quote me on this, but I've been to Washington and from the exterior the
White House is ... less than grandiose. Indeed, it is very much a dated structure, stuck in
the time bubble in which it was built. For the interior, all those presidential wives can't be
wrong in showing some reluctance to live there. So I think it is a fine idea to want to
enhance it.
All fine and good. and that large reception area that the current President isp planning seems
a lovely and generous idea. In line with the glitz of such places in Europe, but with contemporary
restraint.
Before anyone accuses me of wanting to paint the facade pillars magenta, let me point out
that originally, Greek columns themselves were brightly painted. Europe's rediscovery of
Antiquity left us with a lot of white for Churches and Public buildings that could only be
challenged with more or less ornementation. And the modernist reaction to all that gave us
hyper-simple lines and curves on would hesitate to use for a seat of government. Well, all
that has to go somewhere!
Maybe one day, international organizations won't have to gather in hotels, like couples
on a week-end. Who knows, Canada might even end up with a residence for it's Prime Minister
instead of camping out in a secondary building!!
Want to know what to build in Gaza?? I've got some ideas...
