There is a word for it: sarcopenia, the progressive loss of muscle
mass in the elderly. Where osteoporosis is loss of bone mass,
sarcopenia is the loss of muscle, and the two together account for
the frailty and eventual loss of independence characteristic of the old.
There is, at the moment, no medical treatment although upping
protein consumption to 1 or 1,2 grams per kilo of body weight is
recommended, as is regular exercise. This condition is what ups
the risk of falls and fractures. A young person suffering from this condition
might keep body weight but start to appear fat doing so: this is the dreaded
skinny-fat of the fitness community.

Made myself a new skirt for summer wear. It is patternless and sizeless: a tube with
a bottom hem, and an elastic to my comfort at the waist.
