Finally emerged from code tester's frustration. I just got rid of my code
and borrowed some from a YouTuber. an interesting lesson:
The number for tile color is calculated left to right and down In my
example, scoring those dark purples got me 3x15 points, hence a score
of 345!!

The code below gives 400 points for an S and whatever is appropriate for the
other tiles:
