Weighing In

During any period of dieting - ahem, healthy eating
reset - there are difficult moments having to do with
weighing in. One needs to know and often one looks to
the scale for encouragement.

Because there is suffering involved, feelings of intense hunger,
cravings, light-headness and the like. Not that those feelings aren't
present when one is in a devil-may care phase but one resolves
the tension with just another hit of forbidden food.

So in a stick-to-the-plan phase, one alleviates the hunger with
the diet meal, but often one looks for pleasure and relief with...
the scale. Not a good idea on all occasions because conditions
vary and a disappointing weigh-in breed discouragement.
So let's keep it clean on that issue.  One can hop on the scale any
old time, but an actual weigh-in is same time of day, empty, clean and
rested.

On the bloated, retaining water issue; consuming less salt might be
a quick fix, but salt doesn't cause the bloat. Intestinal bloat is gas and
can be the result of eating beans, pasta, dairy or a food one is allergic to.
Overall body water retention is tiredness and will go down as one
sleeps and urinates. If one has been immobile too long, stertch and move
to music, then sleep. Edema is swelling in a specific part of the body, and
is a medical issue.

Successful dieting is about remembering natural foods one love, and
preparing nice meals for oneself. It is a very personnal thing.

Summer is wonderful in this: fruit and vegetables are abundant, and one
can make a salad with one's favourites. Above, a combo I might have at
Brunch with rye crackers.
