Strange co-incidence: tomorrow is St-Valentine's Day but, this year,
it will also be Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Doesn't look good
for a chocolate extravaganza.
But then, I live in the present which means that today is Shrove Tuesday
or Mardi Gras. The verb to shrive itself refers to confessions and absolution,
but in Anglophone countries Shrove Tuesday is a day for eating pancakes and
other rich foods. And Mardi Gras is unabashedly festive.
Indeed, St-Jean sur Richelieu, where I live now includes the city of Iberville
on the other side of the Richelieu river. Let's see what I can 'whip up' to mark the
Day!!
